IILove03

Man, I have been gone for a while! Sorry, but saving the world sometimes takes time!

A couple of cool things happened while I was gone, like the release of papercraft online magazine IILOVE #3! This issue features interviews with Shin Tanaka, Dolly Oblong, Nick Knite, and Harlancore.

Shin is a very talented graffiti artist, and credited as the creator of the first “urban paper toy”. His creations are both unique and beautiful, and in a league all of their own. Dolly makes both adorable papertoys and plush dolls. Her Paper Totem series is a very popular model, you may recall my Totem Robo model from not too far back. Nick makes papercraft called Sizza and Kujira, you may also remember by Evangelion-based boxpunx, and really slick T-shirts under the name Funk Food.

Then there’s Harlancore… hey wait, thats me! Jason Harlan. Fricken’ schweet!

If you want to know just a bit more about myself and these other artists, or maybe you just like to look at pretty pictures, well would you believe IILOVE has both? Not to mention I made the cover (with Vin’s help of course^^) and included two DEVILMAN inspired models. Other exclusive papercraft resides within.

Have you seen this book?

It’s called “PAPERCRAFT: Design and Art with Paper” by Die Gestalten Verlag. It contains images, videos, and models from various artists from all over the world, including myself, who make various things out of paper. And by various I mean truly diverse! I was absolutely amazed by the incredible work inside. Such a wide variety of possibilities.

Click either the image above or the link below to take a look at what I am talking about. I promise, you will love it. Many thanks to Gestalten for inviting me to be part of such an attractive publication.

Also, just for fun, here are the next three series 8 volume 2 models:

s8v2_005

s8v2_006

I hope these models inspire people to draw some more papercraft by hand! In case anyone is curious, Volume 3 of series 8 will be hand-drawn vs. computer-colored. Analog x Digital. I don’t want to make them all too messy, you know?

Here is my latest obsession, Camera Obscura and the brilliant song “Razzle Dazzle Rose”. The vid is unofficial, but the collection of pics is nice.

Ultimately, all I can really think about while writing this post is “I gotta get back to BrĂ¼tal Legend! Lionheade is waiting!”. Dang, that game is awesome.

Well what do you know, here’s both Boxpunx series eight and series zero. Click either image or the links listed below to check them out!

BOXPUNX SERIES 8 Analog Abominations vol. I (all hand drawn)

BOXPUNX SERIES ZERO Mishapes. Mistakes. Misfits. (all completely blank)

I didn’t have the heart to release a series of blank models and not draw on a bunch to release along side them. Being a blank template can be a very lonely existence. We all need to do our part to make them feel loved.

One day I printed out a bunch of the various series zero templates and started bringing them with me everywhere I went. When a moment presented itself I would start doodling on the template in pencil. Then later I would come back and ink it or color it or both. If I liked the result it went into the “good” pile. If I did not like it or if I somehow destroyed the template inadvertently, it went into the “burn” pile.

Boxpunx Series Eight is the “good” pile. Not necessarily the “best” of the randomness, but definitely the most “random” of the randomness.

I also discovered once I started drawing on the templates by hand, I really enjoyed doing it and found it hard to stop!

Not only that, I am still inking the templates, so I figured I would just release them in three 12 piece volumes.

Hence why this series will be three volumes.

Volume one is called “Vectorless”, no computers were harmed in the making of these models.

Volume two is colorless. Get it?

Volume three is somewhere in the future…

…waiting…
